Lori Senecal Steps Down as CEO of CP+B

According to Salary, Lori Senecal, CEO of CP+B, one of the world’s fastest growing advertising agencies, recently announced plans to step down from her role. CP+B are a constituent agency of MDC Partners, of which Sencal is also chief executive. Senecal is credited with ushering in a new philosophy at the agency, prizing innovation and creativity. The CEO’s vision was to create a global agency that at the same time had the flexibility and quick responsiveness of a start-up.

Thanks to Senecal’s leadership, CP+B have made extraordinary headway. Lori Senecal will no doubt be remembered for securing American Airlines as a client, a watershed moment in the history of CP+B. Currently, the company is preparing for the transition and the leadership vacuum that Senecal will leave at CP+B and the broader MDC network of companies.

In an article on The Drum, prior to taking the helm of CP+B, Senecal had already proven herself in the world of marketing and advertising. Senecal was responsible for growing KBS into a small domestic agency into an international giant. Before becoming CEO of KBS, she started her career at McCann Erickson, where she founded Tag Ideation, a new young-adult division of the company.

Senecal is a firm believer in the power of innovation. In her view, companies that rest on their laurels and pretend to innovate will fall behind sooner or later. Senecal is a proponent of mentoring as a way of encouraging women to reach for leadership positions in the marketing industry. One piece of advice she has is to be proactive when it comes to engaging in leadership. In other words, it’s up to the person to create their own leadership opportunity. You can’t simply wait for the opportunity to come to you.

Senecal holds a degree in Business for McGill University in Montreal. She had to overcome extreme shyness in order to achieve her goals. As a young advertising executive responsible for Ford Motor Company’s media account, Senecal routinely had to talk to groups of hundreds of people. She credits this experience with helping her to get over her shyness and allowing her to take her career to the next level. She recently spoke at the 3% conference.
